Annotation 3

Ripley, Casey. The Media & The Public. New York: H. W. Wilson Company, 1994. Print

This source is about the media and the evolution of media due to technology.  It also predicts what they believe will happen in the future with media and technology (which is interesting because it was written in 1994... now its 2009 and is the "future").

"The proliferation of satellites, minicams, and other new television technology has fundamentally changed news gathering, making it an around-the-clock, around-the-world organization."  p. 31

"Those who produce images for mass consumption exercise an enormous power, but they are not omnipotent."  p. 105

These two quotes are very helpful in that they provide a different but similar approach to what I am trying to get at.  The source is more based on media and TV, but regardless, it is about technology.  How technlology grew, and how it helped transmit information easier and more importantly, faster.

This source will easily build on what I am trying to show.  I am trying to show how tecnology has effected us as society, and this is a great example, using media to show how technology effects us.

I will use this source with my other sources to show many sides of technology.  This will help with the part of information passage.  For part of my research I want to show how the information travel path has changed.

As far as credibility this source is very helpful.  It uses many facts and statistics about big name television companies like NBC and CBS.  These names are household names that can draw a connection with everyone.

This source will connect to my other sources by using the technological advancements that we have had and tying them with the way technology effects people.  The sources will all be used together to form the argument or question "What does technology do for us"
